One year on – Mark Perry
What did you do before buying your franchise?
I built a successful career in large, multinational manufacturing businesses. I covered a range of commercial and general management roles including sales, key account management, marketing, customer service and supply chain management.
How have you found the past year?
It’s been an emotional roller coaster ride but very fulfilling. I’ve developed more as a person and as a leader in the last 12 months than I did in the previous 5 years and I managed to get my new business to where I wanted it to be at this point. It is a tough journey but in a different way to my former career. It’s been a steep learning curve and a very liberating 12 months.
What are the benefits of running a ActionCOACH franchise?
The real benefits lie in the system and the support. The tools, systems and knowledge are literally world class which has short-cut years of building systems and structures for my coaching business. The support of other coaches and the ActionCOACH franchise team has been instrumental in building my business too. They have helped me keep my nose to the grindstone, helped me out when things got tricky and also helped celebrate my successes.
What has been your most memorable moment of the past year?
The first time one of my clients used the word “awesome” to describe how his business is developing! It’s been a year of firsts for me, starting my own business, leaving a salary behind, spending a lot more of the summer holidays with my family, building my dreams for the future and getting involved with a lot of industries that I’ve never experienced before. I will always remember 2016 as a milestone year in my life.
What are you plans for next year?
From a business perspective, to make my business really robust, building on the platform I’ve managed to establish so far. Then I want to be able take advantage of the more advanced opportunities ActionCOACH has to offer. From a personal perspective, spending time with my family is important to me and I want to make sure we have enough time and money to do all the mini adventures and trips further afield we have planned.
What would you do differently?
It’s easy to sit here now and say I wish I’d done more/less of that. However, it’s a learning process so you have to go through the stuff that doesn’t work for you to find the gems that do. That’s how I feel about the last 12 months. It’s not about doing things differently, it’s about learning quicker. This year has brought me to a great place to start my second year with ActionCOACH.
